How to remove an agitator from your top loading washing machine.

  • Step 1: Unplug your washing machine. Sound obvious, but better safe than sorry.
  • Step 2: Pull and remove the fabric dispenser. With some models, all you have to do is pull it off but other models might have a lock ring where you’ll have first to pull the ring up and then the agitator.
  • Step 3: Most models have a dust cap. You will need to pull it off to reach the agitator bolt.
  • Step 4: Now all you have to do is remove the bolts from the bottom of the washing machine to remove the agitator completely. Most washing machines will need a 7/16 inch socket but for some other models you will need a 1/2 inch one.
  • Step 5: Once you remove the bolts from inside the agitator all is left to do is lift it with your fingers.
